Newest Book of Images from Charles Mandracchia
Celebrates Old Time Vaudeville Performers

Charles Mandracchia has done it again! From the creative mind of this imaginative artist has emerged SHOWTOONZ, a book of his latest collection of colorful images. SHOWTOONZ is a nostalgic recreation of old time vaudeville performers, a tribute to a time gone by. The old vaudeville era of the last century has all but disappeared from the stage and lives only in celluloid depictions on the screen. SHOWTOONZ breathes new life into these almost mythic icons of the stage. The cast of "Headliners" in this book includes the endearing "Stars," Fright-A-Stare and Green Kelly, among many others. Hoofers with canes and spats and bowler hats, chanteuses, comedians, and even the audience, all jump out at the reader and come back to life. These charming caricatures are typical of Mandracchia's inimitable style, which easily draws both adults and children into this fanciful world from the past. SHOWTOONZ follows fast on the heels of A Wacky Wonder World, Charles' volume of endearing limericks, tongue twisters and unusual characterizations, all intended as a language tool and as a way of reaching children. One can't forget the funny vocal patterns of those wild and wacky characters: the Broccoli Green Marine, Sassy Sally, Davy and the Wavy Navy and the Toothless Vampire. Mandracchia's recent innovative screenplay for the action/comedy, Kung Foo Grannys, will also soon emerge as a children's book. The compelling photographs from his book, 9/11 In Memory, have been called "moving and emotional!" They have also been featured in exhibits at the New York Historical Society; the Here is New York Gallery in Soho, The Museum of Modern Art and on NHK the Japan Educational Broadcasting Company.
Charles has performed in several Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals, as well as television and film productions. He was in the original cast of Grand Hotel The Musical as The Doorman and in South Pacific at NYC Opera as Abner. He co-wrote/composed and co-produced the musical, Valentino the Musical. His work as a teacher of Literacy through Drama, in inner city schools in the Bronx and Brooklyn, inspired him to create these endearing volumes. Currently, Charles teaches computer arts to the students in the Sean (P-Diddy) Combs Computer Arts Lab at the E.W. Stitt Middle School in Manhattan.
Charles Mandracchia brings his creative skill as an actor, artist and teacher into the fanciful and imaginative population that inhabits his books. One can easily see how his life roles converge to inspire the fascinating creations of this theatrical and educational collection of eye candy for both children and adults. SHOWTOONZ is an utterly delightful and not-to-be-missed souvenir for theatergoers of all ages. The readers will find themselves coming back to these pages over and over, to lose themselves in this old vaudeville world time and time again.
